Not only that but if you didn't have their professional edition you ended up missing out on a lot of features, namely ones that allowed you greater control over your own OS, and of course that damn keylogger which, even if deleted, would get reinstalled with every update. New world forum windows 10#When windows 10 first came out there was a keylogger built into the OS that sent everything you did back to microsoft "to help them enhance the OS". I'm honestly given some consideration to a 10gbit internet and a secondary computer running solely as a file server, this would completely negate any problems with moving from os to os because my files would no longer be on the computer so nothing my computer does would screw it up, but windows makes it a nightmare to get computers to work together over a network. The move from 98se to xp was a straight upgrade, xp to 7 ultimately gave me more than i was losing, but 10. Some programs are nice, but not a 1500$ hot backup niceĪnd even if I do like the benefits, the downside of that horrendous ui is still there, what gets taken from me far outweighs what I get. I want some of the games, but i don't need those games there is still no compelling reason to go to 10 over 7. New world forum 1080p#Windows xp till I got an ssd because 7 had garbage collection and 7 removed features I used constantly, still miss menu cascading, but the upgrade to a 1080p and now 4k display makes it less than necessary Win98se till the I got a new computer that could handle xp I honestly wish I could update, but my upgrade path has been like this, I just need a new gpu so I have 2 to do this right. Honestly, when new gpus come out that are better than my 1060 6gb, i'm probably going to go linux and gpu pass though to win 7 and win 10, that way I can dictate what hardware 10 sees and has access to while not needing to shut down 7/close everything i'm going to play a game. If my computer was just a game console, sure, I could put 10 on it and not care, but i need my computer to actually work, and I can't rely on 10. New world forum update#and fortza, but if I decide to completely block microsoft servers so my computer never speaks to it at all, I cant play it, and if I do manage to not update the os, the game stops working unless its on the newest version of the os. Now, there have been a few things that make me want to use 10, 1 of them was a guitar app called bias fx 2 which needs 8 or 10, but I can live without it. but this would all be ok if I could, you know, not update, or just update security, but you can't do that reliably and every time windows updates it still changes your settings to what it wants.Īnd this is all before going into how much i despise the flat design, it looks like crap and studies have even shown it lowers productivity substantially. Then you have feature updates that are forced that break systems and put them into blue screen loops, a fun thing that happened when I was testing the os on a few occasions. a few updates ago they more or less deleted every single file that was symbolically linked, both the link and the actual locations of the files. New world forum install#Lol, I made a post about 10 on another site today because someone asked if it still had problems, I think it's relevant here.Ī few updates ago, anyone who did symbolic linking, it's not something that you normally do in windows, my understanding is its more a unix thing where lets say I install a game on my S: drive, but I want it on my C: drive that is an nvme, the painless way to do this is to copy all the files to the C: drive then symbolically link them to the S: drive making everything seem like its still installed on the s drive from a 'I want to run the game' perspective, but with full benefits of the c: drives speed because that's where it really is.
